12 Years, 7 Months...Start of 7th grade and school volleyball

I had a lot of fun with family this month.  Papa Ron came to visit and brought his new girlfriend Linda.  I thought she was really nice.  We went for a walk at the park and enjoyed some Shakespeare's Pizza.  They also came to one of Emily's soccer games.  Linda's son-in-law is from England and they had him call me.  I LOVED his voice!!!  He even said he had been to where Harry Potter was filmed.  I was so enthralled! I got to go swimming with Corinne one last time before school started.  We celebrated Corinne's birthday at Papa Rodney's shop later that day.

Mom ran a 1/2 marathon in Kansas City one Saturday and Dad got donuts for us.  The next day, we went to Devil's Icebox in Rock Bridge State Park.  It was so cool and I wish we could have done more exploring.  I loved how cool it was in the cave.  Papa Rodney and Nana Arden visited with us on Labor Day and it was nice to see them.

Emily spent a week in Washington while Mom and Dad were at work.  That meant I got to be home by myself for almost a week!  I had to take care of Molly and Athena, but otherwise, I could hang out in my room and listen to music and read and whatever else I wanted without anyone bothering me.

I have been nervous, excited, and blah about starting 7th grade.  I tried out for the Oakland Middle School volleyball team and made it!  Then again, everyone made it so it didn't seem as special.  I was worried about not making it at all.  We have had practice pretty much every day after school.  Our first game was at OLLIS.  There were only 6 of us eligible to play, so we played both the A and B game.  We struggled a lot against their A team, but were pretty matched with their B team.  We ended up winning the 2nd set, but had to forfeit because we were only allowed to play 4 sets a day.  Our next game was against Thomas Jefferson from Jeff City.  It was a home game.  We played pretty well, and won a set against them.  Our third game was against Jefferson Middle School.  We had more players then, and our B team lost, but did better.  Our A team did great!  We won our first set, lost our 2nd, and won the 3rd!  I scored the winning two points.  It was so awesome to have some success.  I think we would do better if more of our girls could serve.

I got my schedule and had to do some changing.  I have French, Theatrical Arts, and FACS in addition to the usual 7th grade core classes and Advanced 7th grade math.  I went to tour the middle school again so I knew where my classes were.  I feel more comfortable this year with navigating the school.  Someone on our volleyball team tested positive, but we were not considered close contacts because of masking.  Several of my friends did have to quarantine, and I kept waiting but never had to.  I am fully vaccinated though, so I wouldn't have to quarantine unless I had symptoms.  I did get to go to a football game to cheer on our school one Thursday night with my friends.  I felt so grown up going to Battle High School for the game.

Ironically, math has become my favorite subject.  I really like my teacher.  English has become difficult, but only because I don't think the teacher likes me.  I completed an assignment and she claimed she never got it.  I ended up having to spend my lunch and RTI time redoing it.  When Dad emailed her about it, she was very passive aggressive and rude toward me the next day. I just want to be trusted by the teachers.  We also had picture day and I didn't make a huge deal out of my outfit or hair this year.

Emily and I changed rooms.  I was really hoping to move downstairs, but Mom and Dad didn't think I showed that I was ready yet.  I was really disappointed and frustrated.  I'm jealous that Emily is getting the room and furniture and colors that she wanted and I am stuck with the old stuff.  My furniture should come in soon and it will be set up downstairs.  It will be hard to see my new room get set up and not be able to use it.  I'm making the most of it and I'm trying not to show my disappointment.

I am looking forward to what the next month brings!

I really enjoyed the trails and hiking in the woods

The caves were pretty cool too

12 1/2 Years Old...Soaking up the last of summer

I wasn't feeling great at the beginning of the month, but I had a lot of fun social things coming up, so we did a drive through Covid test.  Luckily, it came back negative!  Off to the fun!

I went and spent my 4-5 days in Washington with Grandma Kathy and Grandpa Tom.  I wish we had more time together.  We played a lot of cards and did a lot of talking, which was perfect. I went to the Borgia volleyball camp.  I know mom wanted me to like it, but I really didn't.  I just didn't like a lot of the girls there.  Most of them knew each other and were just very snotty.  I did my best though.

After mom picked me up, we left for the youth group trip to the Lake. Elizabeth, Katie, and I had so much fun!  We played Croatian Uno, which is basically Uno with all kinds of extra rules that makes the game fast, complicated, and fun.  We did a lot of tubing and swimming and all kinds of other water fun.

When we got back, we had Mom and Aunt Lisa's birthday party at Papa Rodney's shop.  Jonathan Zoomed in so it was nice to "see" him.  We went to the pool twice with Aunt Lisa and family.  One of the nights we went back to their house and hung out and had dinner.

I went to the Battle volleyball camp and had a much better time because Lila and a few others that I knew were there.  I know that some of the girls have never played volleyball, but that's ok.  I am excited about trying out and worried about not making the team. I went to the Missouri Juniors meeting and got #5 for my jersey number!  Afterwards, I played pepper with Trevor and Jaiden.  I have missed doing that!

I went to Innsbrook with Lila and her family for their vacation.  It was so nice to get away with them.  I really love her family.  I spent the night at Ella's house one night and stayed up way too late!  Lila and I finally got our manicures for my birthday present.  She even got to spent the night.  It was my first sleepover at our house since the pandemic started.

My new friend Aby also had a birthday party that I was invited to.  I was so nervous to go because I didn't know who would be there or if she would even like me anymore.  It turned out better than I ever thought.  We had so much fun, I met new people, and Keri and Makenzie were there!  It was so good to see them!

Papa Ron came today and we had a good time hanging out with him.  He also brought his friend Linda and we went to the park to go for a walk and brought Shakespeare's back to our house.

Summer is coming to an end.  We got our hair cut and did errands, and dad went back to work.  Mom starts this week and I start back next week.  I am really nervous about school and not getting good grades.  But, here's to a good school year!

12 Years, 5 Months...Lots of family time!

We got to spend a couple last days with Papa Rick and Nana Peggy while they were in town.  We picked up Fazoli's and ate at Aunt Lisa's while they were at Corinne's swim meet.  Aunt Lisa and Uncle Otto had left to take Jonathan to Stanford for school.  I can't believe he is going to be gone for 5 years!

Even though I didn't want to, I went to Emily's soccer games.  Mom said I needed to because she always went to mine.  The benefit is that we usually got some type of sweet treat afterwards!

Lila asked if I could go to the movie In The Heights with her and Olga and Lucille.  It was a lot of fun, and we were all really good about wearing our masks even though we were all vaccinated.  Mom had me pay for the tickets and snack.  I was so nervous to talk to the guy behind the counter and I didn't know what I was doing, but I survived!

Our family took a fun, quick trip to Washington for Father's Day.  We went to Papa Ron's first and played a lot of card games.  Then we got to visit Grandma Kathy and Grandpa Tom with the rest of the family for the first time since the pandemic started!  I really missed everyone, especially Hadley.  Too bad we didn't get any pictures!  We celebrated Father's Day with Dad's family at our house the next weekend when Aunt Lisa and Uncle Otto got back.

We also went to Washington one day for the Frankenberg Fest.  I hadn't planned on swimming, but I am so glad that I did!  I had a lot of fun and reconnected with Nicole.  We also played some fun games with other distant cousins around my age.  I hope we do this every year!

I have been begging to move into the bedroom downstairs for a long time and it is a possibility soon.  We found some nice furniture and it will come in at the the beginning of September.  I can't wait to decorate my room in neutral colors.  So, I have to be responsible and follow directions, etc. to show Mom and Dad that I can handle moving downstairs.  It is hard, but I am doing my best.  Mom also took me out clothes shopping for a few things.  I'm trying to decide what my style will be like for 7th grade.

I was able to go over to Shelby's again one afternoon.  She was going to come here, but Emily was sick and we were waiting for her Covid test to come back.  It was negative!  We found that out right before our 4th of July gathering with Aunt Lisa's family at our house.  Thank goodness!  That night was pretty fun, but our neighbors we shooting off some big and loud fireworks right in our direction and it scared me quite a bit.  We went over to Aunt Lisa's to celebrate the 4th of July on the 5th with a BBQ.  Our family also went blueberry picking that morning.

One afternoon, I got to go over to Jacob's new house.  I got to play with the dogs and cat there, and then he took Corinne and me to go swimming in their neighborhood pool.  There were some older kids there that we played with.  I didn't put sunscreen on (despite the reminders) and got pretty burned.  I was also asked to go to one of Lila's swim meets and I got to cheer on her and Corinne!

I was able to do several volleyball clinics and open gyms this month before try-outs.  I tried out for Missouri Juniors and Club CoMo again.  I was really nervous that I wouldn't make it.  It took a while, but I got the call later that night that I made MO Jrs!!!  I found out later that all of my friends made it and accepted offers too!  It should be a fun season!

I went to the Mizzou positional 3 day volleyball camp.  I was so nervous because I didn't know anyone and I was the youngest in my group.  I was able to keep up with them though.  Everyone was pretty tired because they worked us hard!  I did have a pretty bad sore throat and took a cough drop.  At first we thought it was because I was yelled so much during the loud try-outs, but it turns out I caught Emily's cold.  We wanted to make sure it wasn't Covid, and my test came back negative as well!

I've caught up on a lot of appointments this month.  Just in time, because I have a lot of fun things planning the rest of the summer-volleyball camps, a trip to Washington, and a couple of trips to the Lake!
