14 Years, 8 Months...Volleyball and homecoming dances!

We had a varsity tournament at the Lake, and Dad went to watch while Mom went to Emily's first soccer game.  We played hard, but we also played hard teams and didn't win any sets.  We rushed home so I could get ready for my Homecoming dance.  I'm so glad that Aaron and I were able to go together.  I was so nervous to get out of the car.  It was a lot of fun, but I asked to go home early because I was exhausted and needed rest.

Emily had a soccer game on a Monday night so Mom and Dad went to that.  Nana Arden and Papa Rodney picked me up from volleyball practice and I got to have a large Sonic ice cream!

I found out that Michael and Pastor Carol and their family is leaving to go to South Carolina. I wasn't able to go to youth that night, so Michael called me personally.  I didn't show my emotions on the phone with him, but cried with Elizabeth later.  I am really going to miss them and don't think youth will ever be the same.

Battle played a game against Hickman at Hickman and Aaron came to watch.  Our team played horribly and lost 0-2.  We then had a tournament at Warrenton.  Papa Ron and Linda, Grandma Kathy and Grandpa Tom came to watch us play.  We took second in our pool and dominated!  We played the team that ended up winning the whole tournament next and lost. We won the next game to take 3rd place!  I know like to ask for a strawberry smoothie from Smoothie King before each game for good luck.  We had a home game against Union.  I made a few mistakes, got in my head, and was taken out of the game.  I had a pretty poor attitude.  I was also upset because some of the older girls on the team were talking bad about me in the bathroom when they didn't know I was in there.  I got to talk to coach about it and things are a lot better now.  We played hard against Capitol City, but lost in 5 sets.

Mom and I went to an MU game with my Missouri Juniors team.  They are so nice and so much fun.  I can't wait for practices to start!  Our family went to Alex's birthday party after the game.  I went to Emily's very hot soccer game to cheer her on.  We went out to eat at Cheddar's with Papa Ron and Linda after, and then hung out at Aaron's house.  Our Church had service on the lawn this month too.

We had 3 days off school at the beginning of October while Mom had to work.  Aaron came over the first day when Dad was home, and I watched Emily the other two days. We had 3 volleyball games in a row that week.  We beat Smith Cotton at home in 3 sets.  I played great and served the game point!  Lillian and Neha, and Mrs. Upton and Ainsley came to watch.  We lost 1-3 in California (mom came) and lost 1-3 in Fatima (dad came.)

I chose to go to a Rock Bridge High School football game against Battle over going to an MU volleyball game.  It was really cold, but nice to be there with Aaron.  I went to another of Emily's soccer games and hung out at Aaron's afterward.  We went to an activity called Woofstock and of course, I begged for a dog that was there.  Aaron and I painted pumpkins at his house and then got ready for his homecoming dance.  It was so much fun!

I think I overdid it again and started feeling sick.  I even came home early from school that Monday, but didn't want to miss the volleyball games that week.  I felt better after that.  We played our next game at Rock Bridge.  Because Maria was sick, I got to play all around!  It was so nice to be able to hit again! We all played really well and even took a set from Rock Bridge.  We played against Danielle and I got to serve receive her and hit to her in the same point.  Mom said she saw Coach Colleen at the game and she said I did really well. When asked, Aaron said he "cheered for Rock Bridge and for Ellie."

Our next game was played against Jeff City High School at home.  It was so much fun playing against Hannah and Ali's team.  It made me laugh when Hannah said "hi Ellie" nonchalantly from the other side of the court.  We lost in 3 sets, but it was a good game.  Papa Ron and Linda came to watch too.  We only have one more game before districts.

I was asked to play in the JV tournament during a Friday practice.  I ended up skipping the Taylor Swift movie with Lila and went to bed early.  When I woke up to get ready for the game the next day, I had a text at midnight saying I wasn't needed.  I was so disappointed how that went down.  I went to Emily's rainy soccer game and then supported the JV team for a couple games.  I went to Aaron's later that day and finished painting our pumpkins.

My Missouri Juniors team got together at Mill Creek to practice and do getting to know you games.  Mom and I went to the MU volleyball game with Aaron and his mom.  What a busy month!

14 Years, 7 Months...Welcome to high school!

Summer is coming to an end.  Mom went back to work and Emily and I hung out at home.  Nana Arden came over to bring us McDonald’s and a treat on a couple of days.  I have been busy with volleyball practice and am really enjoying my school team.  I can’t believe I get to play varsity!  I had a problem with my class schedule and dad took me up to school to talk with my counselor.  She is amazing and did everything she could to get me not only in the right classes, but in the classes I wanted.  I really like her, and she gets to follow me for 4 years.

I went out to a movie with Aaron and his parents.  Nothing like a double date with the parents!  We also went to a couple of Mizzou volleyball games, went swimming at his neighborhood pool, and hung out at our house later.  At Church, we had blessings of the backpack, but I was too cool to go up and get my backpack tag.  I like to hang out with the youth group in the back of church during the service.  Our family went to Corinne’s birthday party even though I wanted to skip to hang out with Aaron some more before Jump Start day.

Things have gone so fast since school started!  I went to Jump Start day so I could get a feel for the high school building the day before classes started.  I thought I was going to be able to walk through my schedule, but we did not.  It was really hot and we had an assembly outside on the bleachers of the football stadium.  Afterwards, we had our school pictures taken.  Nothing like a sweaty mess!  My first day of school went pretty well.  We had our first BHS Jamboree against California and Fatima that night.  I get to play middle back DS and rotate when Maria is in the backrow.  I get to play about half the time which isn’t too bad for a freshman on varsity.  I even got on TV that night, as I was celebrating a point and also a really good dig that I had.  I realized quickly that my AP classes were too much work.  I again changed my schedule and am now in Honors classes instead.

I went to some of Aaron’s basketball games, and we spent time at each other’s houses as much as we could after school started.  Volleyball is keeping me seriously busy.  One week, he was very insistent on getting together with me at Andy’s.  When we were finally able to get together, he surprised me with asking me to homecoming through a poster of Taylor Swift songs!  I went dress shopping with Lila and her mom since my mom was at home with Emily, who had Covid.  I wished she could have been there, but I found a beautiful dress, and also ordered one online.  I decided to keep them both!  We canceled spending the night because of the Covid exposure, but I never got it.

I went to Texas Longhorn with my team for a bonding experience.  They are all so nice and inclusive of me.  They offer me rides since I am the only one who is not able to drive.  Our first real game was against Eldon, and I got to play against Jaiden from Missouri Juniors.  I had a highlight reel on hudl that showed 19 digs!  Again, not bad for a freshman on varsity!  Our team had a carwash fundraiser with the softball team and I went to the Mizzou/Louisville game after that.  That is one of my top volleyball schools that I would like to go to.

We have since had volleyball games at Lebanon, at home vs. Hallsville (Papa Ron and Linda came!), a tournament at Hickman, a game at Blair Oaks, and a game at Helias (Aaron went with mom).  I am so exhausted and was glad to have a day off school in the middle of that.  We walked in the very short first annual homecoming parade!  We start next month with another tournament and my homecoming!
