14 Years, 3 Months...Busy with Track and Other Activities!

Our first track meet this month was at Centralia (Boone County Relays).  We didn't run the 4x800 because one member of the team hid so we had to forfeit.  I ran against Lila and Alaina in the 1600 and got my PR of 6:43!  I ran the 1600 in the Mexico meet and got another PR of 6:35!  I realized that I was running close to Lila when she usually blows me away.  I discovered that she was really struggling during the run, so I ran with her.  We ended up helping each other (she finished, and I got my PR!)  I also ran in the 4x800 and my split was 3:12. Our next track meet was at Jefferson City High School and got my PR again-6:31!!! Our last two track meets were in Columbia at Rock Bridge High School and Battle High School.  Aunt Lisa came to the Rock Bridge meet.  I was hoping to get another PR, but I ran a 6:34 and 6:39, respectively.  At times I would get motivated to do better, but other times I really didn't enjoy running track.  I am hoping to play soccer in high school in the spring.  I already got my sports physical for high school!

Middle school is wrapping up.  I took the MAP test and think I did ok.  I took the End of Course (EOC) exam for the first time because I am taking Algebra.  The first day was rough, but I felt confident the second day.  I also was selected to represent Oakland in the Geography bee, and tied for 3rd place in the school.  Not too bad for a girl who thought Alaska was in the middle of the Pacific Ocean near Mexico!  I went dress shopping for the 8th grade dance.  I was having a hard time feeling good about myself in a dress, but I finally decided on a beautiful red dress.

I went to the Columbia College volleyball camp.  The head coach pulled me aside to get to know me a little better and said, "I hope to see more of you."  I'm also starting lessons with Antonija for sand volleyball.  It's a little different not being on a court.  We had our end of the year volleyball party at Lia's dad's house.  We played a lot of volleyball outside, but I got annoyed that Emily kept trying to play.  I also felt out of place with my teammates when they were talking about boys and social media.  It was pouring down rain and I was ready to go early.

Mom was in charge of bringing dinner to youth group one week and got to talk about herself.  I didn't eat the taco soup "because I wasn't hungry" and was very quiet.  I get like that sometimes.  Because Emily goes to most of my events, I also went to her soccer games.  All three sets of our grandparents were at one game and it was so nice to have them there.  Mom's parents came back to our house for a relaxing dinner and Papa Ron and Linda took Emily, mom, and me out for Andy's.   I normally don't spend much time with Emily, but I have read to her a couple of times this month at night.  She bought my favorite book The Westing Game and I wanted to share it with her.

Dad injured his back this month and had surgery.  Nana Arden and Papa Rodney took me to school that morning and picked me up.   Mom has asked for some extra help this month because dad can't move much.  In between all these activities, I've tried to spend as much time as I can with Aaron.  We went to the Guardians of the Galaxy movie with his mom and sister.  We just celebrated our six month anniversary!

14 Years, 2 Months...End of volleyball, beginning of track!

We had a day off school and Nana Arden came to bring us McDonald's like she did during virtual school.  Aaron, his mom, my mom, and I went to the mall together and then went out for Andy's afterwards.  We try to get as much time together as we can.  Our family went to the MU volleyball game with Lilah, Aurora, and Avonlea and mom and dad went on a date night later while I watched Emily.  Our family also went to Jacob's birthday party.

Mom and I went to St. Louis with Grandma Kathy for the MEQ volleyball tournament.  It was such a great weekend!  We were undefeated the first night!  Papa Ron and Linda came the second day and we got first place in our pool and had to play a cross-over match to make it into the gold bracket.  Lilah got sick and we ended up coming from behind to win!  Unfortunately, we lost the in the first round in the gold bracket on the third day.  We tied for 10th place, not too bad!  This was the start of spring break.

Over spring break, I got my hair cut, spent a day at Aaron's, helped clean up the youth room at Church, and had volleyball practice.  Mikayla told us that she accepted a job at Texas A&M and would not finish the season with us.  I was pretty mad and devastated.  Because of all the volleyball and track, I haven't been able to do much with the play, but I did get to spend some time during an early release.

Aurora and Avonlea came over one afternoon and ended up spending the night.  We had a squirrel's nest blown out of a tree and 2 baby squirrels fell on the ground.  We rigged up a bucket in the tree to see if the momma squirrel would come back overnight.  She didn't and one of the squirrels (Oliver) died, but Coconut survived!  A rescue worker ended up taking him to her house to heal and release into the wild.  I had plans to keep him in my bedroom downstairs!

We had a our first track meet on April 4th.  I ran the third leg of the 4x800 and the 1600 at 6:55.  I was so excited to break 7:00 and can't wait to break 6:45 this season!  I ran the 4x800 in the Smith Cotton meet and decided to not run the 1600 because my hip was hurting pretty bad.  I am hoping it gets better so I can keep improving my times.

We had a three day volleyball tournament (the Show Me Qualifier) over Easter weekend in Kansas City.  Robin and Craig Sherman coached us in our last tournament.  They were truly amazing!  We finished up our volleyball season at Regionals in Kansas City. Mom and I went up to stay with Jill and Ale the night before, and then Dad and Emily came after her soccer game got cancelled.  We played incredibly well our first day and then ended up losing our first round in the gold bracket.  We just got too far behind and dug a hole and couldn't recover.  We had beaten this team earlier in the season and should have won this game.  It was a really hard way to end the season. Looking forward to next season already!
